It was a neglected yet stately Queen Anne Victorian on Metropolitan Hill in the Roslindale section of Boston. Being a private person, and well before the internet, I thought the price of my new acquisition would remain private. To my surprise, a few months later, my house was featured in Boston Magazine, centerfold spread, with its price tag clearly displayed for all to see. The article was called “Boston Booms”, and boom it did. I doubled my money when I sold this property 5 years later.
Next I bought a house on 16 private acres in Norton, MA. The house was not glorious but serviced me and my family for 16 years. The commute to Boston from Mansfield on the commuter rail was about the best transit Boston offers, and since I worked for 28 years in Boston’s investment management industry, that was of paramount importance. I sold the Norton property for more than double its purchase price, and rented an apartment down the street from the Bunker Hill Monument in Charlestown, MA, while I purchased land, designed and built my house in Narragansett.
